Solar Switch sunglasses lead POC's Eurobike lineup

A pair of sunglasses featuring a solar-switching lens is one of a long list of innovations POC will announce at Eurobike next month.

Hot on the heels of our recent review of the exceptional Ventral Air SPIN, Swedish kit brand POC have given us a preview of the technological marvels they will be releasing at Europe’s biggest bike show, which takes place in the Zepellin halls at Friedrichschafen Airport, Germany between September 4 and 7.

Solar Switch eyewear

We’ve all started riding in bright sunshine only for it to cloud over like the coming of the apocalypse and discovering the tint of our sunglasses means we can barely see a thing. The boy scouts among us might at this point pull over and fit the low-light lens they happen to be carrying but for most it means parking the shades in the eye garage and exposing ourselves to the filth of the road.

This is where the Aspire Solar Switch sunglasses come in. They utilise an electrochromic LCD lens, which senses the sunlight and alters the tint instantly using solar power. Two pairs of sunglasses in one, basically.

Women’s Ultimate VPD bib shorts

Female cyclists have forever been blighted by the inconvenience of bib shorts when it comes to taking a comfort break. Over the years many manufacturers have attempted to address this with a bewildering variety of strap systems that provide function for just such an eventuality.

POC’s new Ultimate VPD (nope, us neither) bib shorts are engineered in reverse, with the easier pull-down bit at the back. Alongside some advanced compression fabrics and super-stretch bibs, they can be pulled down without the need to remove anything.

POCito kids’ protection

We all think kids should get into the habit of cycling at the earliest age possible, which is why it is refreshing to see POC release a range specifically for the protection of younger riders.

The Omne POCito SPIN shares the same materials and details as the adult Omne, with a 360° fit system, an EPS liner developed especially for children, highly visible fluorescent colours, and reflective detailing. It also includes POC’s silicone pad technology SPIN (Shearing Pad INside).

Also in the collection is a reversible hi-viz vest which incorporates Primaloft Black ECO insulation and is made from 80% post-consumer recycled polyester fibre. The POCito collection also features an award-winning back protector which can house a Trax tracker and specifically designed knee and elbow protectors.

The Transit casual collection

Unbelievable as it may seem, while we might spend our every waking hour thinking about bikes, there’s a limit to how long we can spend riding them. For the hours in between rides, POC has developed the Transit collection - casual gear made from technically advanced fabrics that will look as good propping you up at the bar as it will with your hands on them.

Transit is designed for what POC considers the every day moments, which essentially means anything, from off-bike adventures to trips down the supermarket. If you do fancy using it on the bike, for a bit of gravel riding for instance, Transit has a few nifty features that will smooth your path.

There’s a lot of insulation and merino, more or less guaranteeing comfort and more than a bit of cosy warmth.
