Did Vélobici know something we didn't?
It’s cold outside and if the forecast for the UK is anything to go by, it’s going to stay that way for quite a while.
The next three months according to the weather-sayers, thanks to an arctic blast and a triple storm front firing at us from Siberia.
While that might fill you with dread, it does mean it’s the perfect time to think about investing in something warm to be riding in. And with almost weatherman-like precision we have a launch from Vélobici.
The UK brand launched the Vélobici René Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey and matching bib shorts on January 1, which makes perfect sense now the mercury is plummeting. This is the winter version of the successful Vélobici René summer kit. Instead of the light, summer-weight cloth that characterised the original piece, the new version is created from a thick thermal fabric with full-length sleeves and decent windproofing thanks to the tight weave of the fabric. The Vélobici René Thermal bib shorts are double-layered, to trap air and keep the chills out. All the usual Vélobici details remain, such as reflective trim and embroidered logo.
If you are new to the Vélobici brand, it’s worth knowing that this is cycling clothing handmade at their own factory in Leicester. Almost every aspect of the manufacturing process is UK-based, from the weave of the fabric to the stitching, embroidery and quality control.
Quality of workmanship is second to none, with all final finishing completed in-house and products tested on the lanes around Leicester, as well as, in this case, the unforgiving slopes of the Blockhaus mountain in Italy’s Apennine mountain range.
You can pick up the Vélobici René Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey and bib shorts here, priced at £185 for the jersey, £190 for the bibs and £330 for the set.
