Ever sat there watching a pro-tour race and wondered exactly how fast those riders are going? Or how about how many watts they're putting out as they shoot up a mountain?
We have, and so must the people at Velon, who have developed an app for Apple iOS which brings you real time rider data.
Velon have launched the app for the Tour de Suisse and it will offer you power, speed, heart rate, cadence and acceleration from selected pro riders. Because it is available on your device, you can keep a check of the data whether you're watching the action on TV or not.
All you have to hope is that the nominated riders remain in the race, although considering Velon is actually a venture formed by pro teams BMC Racing, Etixx - Quick-Step, Lampre-Merida, Lotto-Soudal, Orica GreenEDGE, Cannondale Pro Cycling, Team Giant-Alpecin, Team LottoNL - Jumbo Pro Cycling, Team Sky, Tinkoff, Trek-Segafredo, there is going to be a fair bet some of them stay the duration.
“This new app from Velon gives fans a chance to get closer to riders than ever before, we are delighted that such technology is being showcased at the Tour de Suisse,” said Olivier Senn, Race director of the Tour de Suisse.
Presumably if all goes well you'll be watching the stats of the peloton as they get on with the Tour de France next month.
